Steve Bannon seems to suggest that in order to get a job done correctly, one is better served doing it himself. That would appear to be the rationale behind Vanity Fair’s report that Bannon is considering a 2020 run for the presidency… if Trump does not seek reelection.
In a new profile of Bannon from Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman, it’s reported that the former Trump campaign manager told a confidante that he’d consider a presidential run in 2020 if Trump chose not to run for a second term.
“Bannon has also remarked on the toll the office has taken on Trump, telling advisers his former boss has ‘lost a step,’” reports Sherman. “‘He’s like an 11-year-old child,’ Bannon joked to a friend in November.”
Naturally, a loudmouthed, profane 13-year-old like Bannon would be an improvement.
In his interviews with Sherman, Bannon always maintained that he had great respect for Trump — however, he didn’t hide the fact that he had regularly become frustrated at the direction the Trump White House had taken since the president won the election in 2016.
“I realize in hindsight I was just a staffer, and I’m not a good staffer,” Bannon admitted. “I had influence, I had a lot of influence, but just influence.
One prominent Republican also said that Bannon hated giving Trump the final say on policy matters because Bannon believes Trump is “dumb and crazy.”
Not a good staffer, but a GREAT candidate, right Steve?
