BU is reporting live from Montgomery, Alabama today as Equality Wiregrass holds a rally and demonstration at the state supreme court building. Despite the cold weather, a substantial crowd is expected to protest Chief Justice Roy Moore’s latest attempt to block county courthouse doors against same-gender couples trying to marry. Moore’s defiance of the Supreme Court’s historic Obergefell decision is widely seen as a prelude to a future run for governor, but it has earned calls for his removal from office on editorial pages across the state. Marriage equality litigant Paul Hard is slated to speak at the event today.
This post has been updated again to replace the Ustream video with YouTube, which is more robust.
Matt: Thank you for providing this streaming video of the protest in Montgomery today, January 12, 2016. I could not make it, but was able to be here cheering from my couch as I watched. Again, Gracias! Mahalo, John Fiske, Huntsville, AL
This was a great piece of work Matt. many thanks for getting this event covered and for all the hard work that went into it. I hope this year you get out into the field more often.
