Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, candidate for the 2016 Democratic Party Presidential nomination, proposes a financial transactions tax (FTT) on Wall Street. A FTT would, in effect, impose a sales tax on stocks and other financial assets. Speculators would have to pay a tax on their trades just like people who buy consumer goods. Sanders plans to use the revenue for free tuition at public colleges. Watch right here to see Bernie Sanders sing in protest against wealth inequality in the music video for “Wall Street!”

When you go broke and your mortgage defaults
You can always blame Wall Street
Student loan debt and credit card bills
Seem to deflate your dreams – Blame Wall Street!
Predatory lenders foreclose condos in the city
Banks “too big to fail” do things that are not very pretty
And the Middle Class lose
We’re left behind holding the bag
While they hoard all the wealth
Man, you know it’s a drag
Wall Street – Wealth inequality
Wall Street – Bold criminality
Wall Street – Unscrupulous moral turpitude
Working full time but your cupboards are bare
You can always blame Wall Street
Can’t take a sick day or FMLA
You can always blame Wall Street
Bernie Sanders is kind and will help and understand you
Bernie is just like you wants to stick it to “The Man” too
Help him along
And pretty soon we’ll close the gap
Between the rich and the poor
With a transactional tax on
Wall Street – Wealth Inequality
Wall Street – Bold Criminality
Wall Street – Unscrupulous Moral Turpitude
“Wall Street”
