Would President Donald Trump pay a political price if he should decide to order the US Military to fire their weapons at the thousands of advancing asylum-seeking refugees approaching the US/Mexico border? Or would his base defend such an action as a necessary defense of the border?
Before you dismiss the question as unthinkable, consider for a moment how much Trump supporters have already accepted; things that would have been absolutely unacceptable under a Democrat — especially America’s first African-American president. Imagine a thrice-married Barack Obama being caught on tape bragging about forcing himself on women by grabbing their genitals. That same Black man ordering his lawyer to pay hush money to a porn star he was banging while wife #3 was still recovering from childbirth, or inviting a rap artist into the Oval Office and sitting there smiling while the rapper pounded on the Resolute Desk while shouting a profanity-laced babbling rant. The staccato exploding of right wing heads would rival the sound of popping corn at the theater snack bar.
So, what if the guy who said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue in broad daylight and not lose a supporter decided to put that assertion to the test by ordering American troops to mow down approaching refugees? Would he suffer politically? Or would the Propaganda Arm of the Fourth Estate fill the airwaves on TV and Radio with justifications for what, in any other reality, would be a war crime comparable to anything done by the Third Reich?
