Sure, there’s a lot for a sympathetic, caring soul to be concerned with today. Babies ripped from their parents’ arms for the crime of seeking asylum… A journalist being hacked to death in Turkey by Saudis while the killers are being protected by a President whose nipples get hard at the thought of harming members of the Fourth Estate. And yes, even tonight, somewhere, a kitty or a puppy is not getting any whipped cream with its dinner… the sort of injustice that gets Sarah McLaughlin singing on fund-raising PSAs.
Yet, amidst all this pain and suffering, without setting aside any cares you may have about the above-mentioned atrocities, might we ask you to save a spot in your heart for someone who has suffered, perhaps more than anyone?
Paul Manafort needs your thoughts and prayers!

Talking Points Memo relates Paulie’s Passion. Shed tears if you have them.
U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis on Friday sought to tie up the remaining loose-ends in Paul Manafort’s case in Virginia, in a hearing where Manafort showed up in a wheelchair, with his right foot appearing to be in some sort of white sock or wrapping.
Kevin Downing, Manafort’s attorney said that the former Trump campaign chair was suffering “significant issues” with his health in the Alexandria jail where he is being detained. He said the issues had to do with the terms of his confinement needed to guarantee his safety.
…
A person familiar with Manafort’s condition said it was a serious medical condition that had to do with inflammation related to his diet.
We’ve heard that the beef bourguignon they serve in the slammer just is not up to the quality to which Manafort is accustomed. The vintage in the wine cellar is just abysmal. The sheets aren’t soft or silky or dried in the prison laundry using scented dryer sheets.
We can only hope that when the sentencing hammer falls on February 8, Manafort will be allowed to spend time in one of our nation’s finer Zagat-recommended 5-Star Federal Prisons.
Anything less would be horrible.
