Retired Lt. General Michael Flynn who served as National Security Adviser for an historically-brief term of 24 days has taken a guilty plea on a single count of lying to the FBI.
Specifically, Flynn will cop to falsely claiming that he had not asked Russia’s ambassador to the United States last Dec. 29 “to refrain from escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the United States had imposed against Russia that same day.”
Flynn also admits he lied by telling the FBI “he did not recall the Russian Ambassador subsequently telling him that Russia had chosen to moderate its response to those sanctions as a result of his request,” the information says.
The fact that Flynn will be charged with a single count indicates he has a deal with Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller to cooperate with the investigation.
