According to Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight, if the election were held today Trump would win by 57 percent with only 42 percent for Clinton. Those are some pretty stunning numbers for Trump. according to a story about the latest election predictions at Business Insider:

Trump has received a bump in the polls since the Republican National Convention in Cleveland wrapped up last week. He jumped ahead of Clinton in a set of new surveys released Monday.

In the RealClearPolitics average of several polls, Trump pulled ahead of Clinton by 0.2 points on the back of four consecutive polls showing him ahead of the former secretary of state. It’s the second time in the entire election cycle that Trump has led Clinton in the coveted polling average.

The DNC will be playing catch up this week as the Democratic conventions starts today.

  1. Donald Trump got a convention bounce. With the rarest of exceptions, this happens to presidential nominees.

Hillary Clinton is, as a result, slightly behind in (some) public polling. With the rarest of exceptions, this happens to the nominee of the party to hold its convention second.

I’m not saying we who aren’t certifiable should be relaxed and happy. To the contrary. Donald Trump must not be elected President. However, lighting our hair on fire is not a needful thing to do.

Let’s wait until next Monday before deciding whether or not to panic.
