North America’s longest and most exciting mountain coaster opened October 10. Encompassing 5,450′ of mountain terrain, riders rush near exposed rocks and cliffs, dive through a diverse mountain forest and descend into Berkshire East, a small family-run mountain resort in Charlemont, Massachusetts.

The roller coaster is actually the fulfillment of a family dream for the Schaefer family, who own and operate a wind turbine and a 500kWh solar field to power Berkshire East, the first ski area in the world to run from onsite renewable energy..

The roller coaster has a pretty cool backstory being documented by William L. Ferrell:

  1. I wish I could get into rides like this but the control freak inside me says it is not going to happen. When I was younger I loved the spinning rides but I could never get into the coasters, now I dislike both about the same.

  2. My biggest complaint about most rides is that they’re over too soon, but this one looks like it would be worth the wait in line. I love the idea of riding a coaster through the woods.

  3. This is my first time hearing about a mountain coaster. I would absolutely love to ride this! With an open seat like that, though, I bet they will have to get people to sign some kind of forum. I don’t know how safe that would be.

  4. I love roller coaster rides, but I have never heard of a mountain coaster ride. I really enjoyed the length of the ride and it didn’t seem to go too fast and be over with before you know it. I can’t believe that this ride is so close to where I live. I am definitely going to check this one out.

  5. This looks like a lot of fun. I have never heard of a mountain coaster before. I have been on so many different roller coaster and I would love to take a family vacation to ride this mountain coaster. I really like how it takes you through wooded areas so you can enjoy the ride and nature at the same time.
