Marijuana advocates are throwing their support and funds behind what’s been dubbed as “The Silver Tour”, an educational non-profit effort aimed at increasing the knowledge of Florida’s seniors — so they can learn about the many benefits of legalized medical marijuana.

The Silver Tour is raising funds to launch a statewide radio campaign in advance of Election Day 2014. Florida voters will be deciding whether to pass Amendment 2, and legalize the possession and personal use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. The educational effort is to help voters make a decision and have the final say on amending the state’s constitution to legalize medical marijuana.

Participants in The Silver Tour learn about the history of marijuana and the history of marijuana prohibition. The seminars also educate individuals about the benefits of medical cannabis from physicians, nurses and patients; including legal specialists, filmmakers and more.

Founded by legendary pitchman and author of The Black Tuna Diaries, Robert Platshorn, The Silver Tour “enlightens and empowers seniors with facts about the use of medical cannabis in treating a host of ailments—from MS and glaucoma to Parkinson’s disease and the side effects of cancer treatment and according to certain research, medical marijuana is safer and more effective than many of the narcotic drugs prescribed to seniors today,” according to a press release.

“Florida Buds is proud to support Robert Platshorn and his work in educating the public about the marijuana industry through his non-profit organization, The Silver Tour. Robert has dedicated himself to spreading the knowledge of medical marijuana and the benefits it can provide everyone, including the growing baby boomer and senior population of Florida,” said David Shiner, founder of Florida Buds, the company that is slated to be Florida’s inaugural medical marijuana dispensary.

“A statewide radio campaign is the only way to get the word out about how Florida seniors and their families can benefit from the relief offered by medical cannabis, and why they should vote in favor of Amendment 2,” said Robert Platshorn on the collaborative effort.
